About Beetroot Powder.
Beetroot powder is fresh beetroot, sliced, dried and ground into a fine, deep magenta powder. It keeps the earthy-sweet flavour of beetroot and, above all, its vivid colour, without any of the chopping, staining or cooking.
Ours is 100% beetroot. No colour, sugar or fillers are added.
How to use beetroot powder
- Pink rotis and parathas: knead one to two teaspoons into the atta. Kids love them.
- Smoothies and juices: a teaspoon in a banana-berry smoothie or a carrot-orange juice.
- Raita and dips: stir into curd, hummus or hung-curd dip for a bright pink colour.
- Baking: use as a natural colouring in red velvet cake, pancakes and cookies.
- Soups: whisk into tomato or vegetable soup.
- Lattes: a "beet latte" with warm milk, a pinch of cinnamon and honey.
How much to use
For colour, half to one teaspoon is plenty. One teaspoon of powder is roughly the colour of a quarter of a small beetroot.
A tip for bright colour
Beet colour fades with long, high heat. Add the powder near the end of cooking, or use it in cold dishes, to keep the pink vivid.
Storage
Beetroot powder takes in moisture easily. Keep it sealed, use a dry spoon, and store it away from light.
